BUDGET WORKSHOP MEETING

Supervisor Solem, Clerk Michalak, Treasurer Gottschalk, Trustees Bollenberg and Haswell, all present.


Public Present: Residents Ron Gottschalk, Ray Franks



NEW BUSINESS


  1. Hall Improvements- The Board discussed the remaining ARPA funds of $12000. The Board discussed using the remaining funds for Hall Infrastructure upgrades.

  2. Road improvements- supervisor states that he is waiting on a response from the road commission as to using “match money” to improve our gravel township roads. All agreed $10,000 as the necessary amount for funding the maintenance for 2024-2025.

  3. -Cemetery and hall ground maintenance- The projected budget is agreed to be $5000.00. The forester has indicated that the township pines will be ready for a select cut this next year.

  4. FIRE MILLAGES- A MOTION by Haswell support by Michalak to put the fire millage funding as a renewal (1 MIL and ½ MIL) on the August 2024 ballot; MOTION CARRIED, all ayes voice vote. (38,700.00 budget amount)

  5. Review of expenditures and revenues- The clerk passed out the last two years of the Township financial activity to the board. Each line was reviewed. Planning and Zoning remains at $9000

  6. A MOTION by Michalak, Support by Solem to accept the 2024/2025 fire contract with Homestead Township; motion carried all ayes voice vote.

  7. The estimated expenditures for the coming fiscal year are $ $173,425.00. The estimated revenues are $ 163,200.00.



  1. Salary review- the salary resolutions accepted at the January 2, 2024 regular 3rd quarter meeting, (reflecting 3% annual increase for each elected position) and the proposed increases for the deputies and election workers were reviewed and approved, (deputies $18 per hour and election workers $15 inspector/$18 chairperson) Mileage reimbursement is agreed at the current federal rate of .66 per mile-


8. Additional Business- The clerk is arranging the annual Joint meeting with Benzonia Township for West Benzie Joint Planning. Resident Gottschalk would like the board to consider a non- refundable cleaning fee of $75 to be charged to all hall rentals.
